We are your local Central Coast myopia experts. Myopia or short-sightedness is a pervasive vision issue affecting children and young adults in the modern world. The latest evidence suggests that children become short-sighted through a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Children who spend greater amounts of time indoors, reading on digital devices have an increased risk of myopia. At least 2 hours of outdoor time daily offers some protection towards short-sightedness. Myopic children should not be wearing regular glasses as it increases their likelihood of getting worse. The current standard of care for myopia is one or more of below options:
MiSight 1 Day contact lenses are new soft lenses which provide increased safety, hygiene and convenience when compared to traditional OrthoK contact lenses. They are disposable which means no cleaning and a very low risk of infection.
Extensive studies show that over a 3 year period, MiSight lenses reduce myopia progression by average 59% compared to single vision lenses.
The MiYOSMART spectacle lens is based on revolutionary Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (D.I.M.S.) technology developed in cooperation with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014. MiYOSMART is easy to fit, just like regular single vision lenses. There are no limitations for the frame choice.
It has been shown to reduce myopia progression by average 60% sustained over 6 years.
Ultra-low dose Atropine eye drops are a safe and effective stand alone or combination therapy for myopia control in Children.
These eye drops work by strengthening the collagen fibers of the eyeball, to prevent it from elongating abnormally, as is the case in progressive myopia.
Please speak to our friendly Optometrists to learn more, as these drops are prescription only.
